A chance to keep running– for good

In case you are looking for another occasion to run with Angels (or on the side of the angels), here is your chance. As some of you know, the Scudamore family annually organizes a fundraising team to benefit the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless. For the fifth year, we are putting a team together to benefit the Coalition at the Holidays 5K. For the past several years we have been the largest team, one of the teams raising the most funds for the coalition, and are the only team that is more than half young people. Many of you are longtime members. We would love to keep building momentum, raise funds to support the Coalition, and increase awareness of the work they do in our community.

Saturday NOVEMBER 5 at City Park.

When you register select JOIN AN EXISTING TEAM and then select MITZVAH MANIACS. If the team does not appear on the pull-down menu, be sure the type the team name MITZVAH MANIACS in the space below and someone will make sure you are added.

Then shortly thereafter, send an email to jareich424@gmail.com to communicate that you are joining the team. You will get your very own team shirt, an invite to our team party, and a bragging rights forever more.

This is open to everyone: runners, walkers, parents, siblings, friends… the more the merrier. Really. You can REGISTER HERE.

Contact Harrison Scudamore or Jennifer (jareich424@gmail.com) with questions, need for clarification, or expressions of raw enthusiasm.

We hope you will join in!

Recap: City Championship

The DPS League Championships on Monday produced more than a few highlights for the Angels. First off, thanks to our amazing assembly of volunteers, we hosted a terrific meet for everyone. Thank-you!

The JV boys led things off. Freshman Zakarias Abdulkadir, 5th, and Jack Rocchio, 7th, led the boys team to a second place finish in the Open race. They were backed up by the trio of Cole Finley-Ponds, Alex Zonca, and Ballard Kauffman in 10th, 11th and 12th.

Freshman Allanna MacRossie-Smith grabbed the Girls Open Championship with a very strong finish in her race. She was followed by Sara Merman in 2nd place. A few girls from North would finish next, then an uninterrupted parade of Angels, in places 6th through 13th, would storm across the finish line, sealing the Girls Open team championship for East. That dominating group included Maria Crippen, Anna Lucy Buddenhagen, Audrey McGlothlen, Maddie Scholtz, Madeline Solomon, Caroline Ritchie, Anna Clayton and Mackenzie Whitehead-Bust.

Junior Harrison Scudamore defended his DPS League Championship, his third varsity title, running a course record time of 16:36. Rafael Marmalejo-Daher, 4th, and Asher Hoyt, 6th, ran their way on to the All-City team with Hoyt finishing as the top freshman of the meet. Kristian Laird, Elijah Bruggeman, Jackson Adams, and Liam Peck finished strong and the boys hung in for 2nd place. In a hint about the future, had there been a separate freshman boys race, East would have taken 5 of the top 8 places.

Samantha Skeen led the varsity girls with a 6th place finish and a place on All-City team. Freshman Lindsey Weyant finished in 10th place, followed by Laurel Kruger (13th), Emily Turner (15th) and the closely grouped pack of Nell Salzman, Maisie Moskowitz, and Serene Mather (18th, 19th and 20th) to score a total of 62 points for 3rd place, behind much improved squads from North and South.

Next up, the Varsity squads will take aim at the Colorada 5A Region 1 meet on Friday, October 21, where qualification for the State Meet will be on the line. The meet is at the Thornton (Margaret Carpenter) Recreation Center at 108th and Colorado Blvd. The girls race at 3:10pm, the boys at 4:50pm. Come out and support your Angels.

Uniform Check In and another thank you.

Thanks to everyone who helped to make the City championship a great meet. We have such a fantastic parent community.

We.will post results and other details about the race soon. For now we need help with two things.

1. We need two or three parents to help check in uniforms in the counseling center tomorrow (Weds) from 2:55-3:45. please email ruthspano@aol.com if you can help.

2. We need runners who are not competing in regionals on 10/21 to bring their CLEAN uniforms to the counseling office between 2:55-3:45. You will be billed for missing uniforms so please help us get this done now.

Have a great week!

City Championship Update

Thanks for everyone who has volunteered to help and to those of you who are cheering on the runners. A couple important updates.

The high school championship is set as planned. The first race is at 3:15.

Due to transportation problems, the middle school championship has been postponed and will not be held on Monday at City Park. Details on a new date should come from DPS soon. Middle school parents should check with their coaches and athletic directors and can also email John_Andrew@dpsk12.org, the DPS middle school athletic director.

East is planning on having a FUN RUN at  5:00 in City Park for any middle school runners or family members who want to run the 3000 meter course through the park. The event is free and open to anyone who wants to run, and may be not be officially timed.

Please pass this on to anyone who has a middle school runner who may not have heard about the change.

Monday should be a beautiful day for running and spectating. We hope to see you soon!
