Running Club Schedule Changes – December

Due to the lack of sun and the increase in covid cases, we are changing the running club schedule.

In December, the group will only meet once a week on Wednesdays, depending on your school schedule, at 9:30am or 3:00pm at the big E. This will cut down on the size of the group and allow you to run in daylight. During winter break, we will not meet.

The other days will be virtual or you can meet and run in small groups. We will post training schedules for those training for 5Ks and another set of training schedules for those training for an April half marathon. See Final Surge for workout details.

We will not run a 5K in December. If cases decrease, we will try to run a 5K in January. If they increase, we won’t.

Remember masks and social distancing are required at practice. You can remove your mask during your run, but they must be worn at all other times.

We hope you all had a nice fall break!!

Letter & Academic Awards

We will pass out letter and academic awards on Thursday, November 19 from 4:00 – 4:30pm on the Esplanade by the E. If you didn’t get your covid, four year award, or cookie, those will also be available.

If you haven’t returned your uniform, you can also do this at the same time.

This is “drive by” style.   Wear your mask and drive on by!

Hope to see you tomorrow!

Track & Field SESSION 8 CANCELLED

Due to the rising numbers of the COVID-19 Virus, Denver East has elected to not participate in Session 8, which was scheduled to begin next week and run through December 4th.  As of now only Session 8 is cancelled and we will re-evaluate for Session 9 after the Thanksgiving Holiday, which is currently scheduled to begin December 7th, fingers crossed.

We will be posting workouts to be done on your own here on the website two or three times a week.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me with any questions.  Have a wonderful Holiday break, and stay safe!

Post Virtual Banquet Notes

Hi Runners and Parents,

We can’t thank you enough for your flexibility and positive attitude through this unprecedented cross country season.  We really appreciate our senior parents for planning this first ever virtual banquet.  Special thanks go out to Ingrid Burnett, Stephanie Nussbaumer, Wendy Folger, Sara Cook, and Stefanie Winfield.  In case you missed it, you can watch the slideshow with this link:  https://link.shutterfly.com/wc7M7Cql6ab

For those of you who can’t let go of cross country, there are still two ways you can continue to run with your friends, Tuesday/Thursday track and/or Monday/Wednesday/Friday virtual running club. You can do one or the other, both, or neither.  Here are the details:

Pre-season track & field

Pre-season track & field practice will continue into session 8 of in-person off-season training following Denver Public Schools COVID guidelines.

All participating athletes will have to fill out the waiver below to participate before 5:00 pm on Wednesday, November 11th. After this time, the waiver will close and DPS will not be accepting any late submissions.

— Once registration is complete, Coach Tasker will reach out with practice times and dates to the registered athletes.

Virtual Running Club

As the days get shorter and darker,  we are not going to have as much time to run in the afternoon.  Runners can still meet at the E at 4:00 on M/W/F, however the workouts will be designed to get runners done in an hour in order to get everyone home before it gets too dark.  We will see if we can keep this schedule through November.  In December, we will have two VRC practice times:

9:00 am – if you have afternoon classes
3:00 pm – if you have morning classes

Feel free to run on your own if the schedule doesn’t work for you.  Workouts will be posted on Final Surge.  As always, wear your mask when you aren’t running and keep socially distant.

If you are interested in training for a 1/2 marathon over the winter and running one in the spring, please text Ruth at 303-525-3829 and she will connect you with the 1/2 marathon group.  Stay tuned for more community race opportunities.

Award & Cookie Pick Up on Saturday!

Here’s to a weird but great 2020 XC running season at East!
We are looking forward to our Virtual Banquet this Sunday, 11/8 at 3:00!  We are limited to 100 people, so we ask that when possible, families use one device to connect to the Virtual Banquet.  Here is the link:  http://meet.google.com/nun-umxb-xjj
Prior to the banquet, we do have a few items for Runners to grab: socially distant running awards, 4 year running awards, sub club awards and a delicious cookie for all!
Drive by East, we’ll be stationed in front of the “E” and we’ll hand out these items.
We’ll be there from 1pm to 2:30, Saturday 11/7.  See you there!
If unable to come by, we’ll work on having these items to you via running club or track practice.
