If the price is cost prohibitive, please let Coach Kohuth know in person or via email, steven_kohuth@dspk12.org . We want to make sure every runner who wants to attend the snowshoe trip is able to go. We fundraise throughout the year to be sure that price will not restrict any runner from attending this trip.

Can’t wait to see the Angels in the snow!
Distance runners are so lucky! They get two competitive high school seasons per year: Cross Country in the fall and Track in the spring. For cross country runners, track is a chance to try racing shorter distances and develop speed, which we will emphasize this track season. We encourage all of our cross country runners to run track. Cross country runners who race track have far better year over year improvement than those who don’t.
Just like summer conditioning is the key to a successful cross country season, winter conditioning is key to a successful track season. Winter conditioning will prepare your body for the rigors of the track when the season officially starts. The first races of the track season are less than two weeks from the start of official practices – not enough time to get ready for racing if you have not been training in the off-season. Additionally, athletes who participate in pre-season conditioning are less likely to get injured during the competitive season.
Under our new WINTER TRAINING tab on the website, you can find our track winter conditioning 2018 guide. We hope you will use the schedule to guide your running on your own or with your teammates until voluntary practices begin. We will have coach led voluntary conditioning on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning January 15. Additional practices may be added prior to the official start of the track season – ask Coach Kohuth or Coach Scudamore for details.
REMINDER: Banquet tickets can be purchased for one more week.
SAVE THE DATE: The annual snow shoe trip will be held Feb 9-10. Details to come soon.
A handful of East Angel runners travelled to Arizona this past weekend to compete in the Nike Southwest Regional Championships against the best runners from Colorado, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico and Nevada. This meet includes seven boys and seven girls races of about 200 athletes each, divided into large, medium and small school divisions, until finally culminating in the Championship races from which the top-2 teams and top-5 individuals earn qualifying spots for the Nike National Championships in Oregon in December.
Juniors Anna Lucy Buddenhagen and Lindsey Weyant competed in the Large School Girls race. Each ran to personal best times for 5K over the golf course at the Casa Grande Sports Complex under great racing conditions. Buddenhagen finished 49th in 19:56, while Weyant finished 62nd in 20:10. Competing in the Boys Championship race, junior Will Daley ran 15:17 for 18th place – the 4th best time and 4th best finish of any Denver East runner at Nike Southwest – beating a long list of athletes who had finished in the top-10 at their respective state meets. Sophomore Abby Howard, running in the Girls Championship race, finished 218th in 20:56.
Mark your calendars for November 23rd, 2019, when Denver East will aim to bring full teams to next year’s Nike Southwest Championships for the first time (and in the mean time, be sure to get your banquet tickets to celebrate the end of the season on Dec 9. Last day to buy tickets is Nov 30.)
