Expanded Summer Training Schedule!

We are happy to announce that we will be adding more training days to our summer voluntary pre-season schedule.

We will start meeting on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays starting on Tuesday, July 6 at 9:00 am. Please note that we will not meet on Monday, July 5 due to the holiday.

To mix things up a little, our Friday sessions will be at different locations/parks around the Denver metro area. Our first Friday Fun Run will be at Cheesman Park on July 9 at 9:00am. Meet on 12th Ave at the corner nearest to East HS.

2021 Summer Practice

The Denver East High School 2021 voluntary summer practice will begin on Tuesday, June 8, 2021. We will start by having practice twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9:00am. Meet at the Big E in front of the school.

These practices are not required, but they are highly recommended for best results in the fall. We believe the well known statement, “cross country champions are made in the summer” and invite all interested runners to join us at summer practice. It doesn’t matter what your running experience has been or how much you are currently running, come join us if you can!

If you are a current 2021 track athlete, please continue to go to track practice. We’ll catch up with you soon!

Remember to wear a watch/fitness device and sunscreen and bring water!

East Runners Complete a Half Marathon!

Last fall, five of our Angel runners decided to train for and run a half marathon. Coach Delaney offered to train them and they began their 19 weeks of training, battling very snowy and cold winter weather.

The runners registered for the Boulderthon Half Marathon and, because of Covid 19, the race went virtual. Our runners pressed on and ran their first, and hopefully not their last, half marathon on April 18 on the Highline Canal.

Sarah Hoffer led the group, finishing with a very respectable 1:50, followed closely by Claire Ely with a 1:53 and not far behind were Charlie Hite and Jane Port, finishing together in just a bit over 2 hours. Kendall Ogin also trained very hard for 15 weeks, but a knee injury while skiing (her other passion) prevented her from racing.

The half marathon turned out to be a perfect pandemic activity! Kudos to these amazing student athletes and Coach Delaney!

Pre-season track practice info

Hi Runners!

We will officially start pre-season track practice next week!

These practices are part of DPS sanctioned off-season training protocols that require ALL ATHLETES TO COMPLETE THE FOLLOWING COVID WAIVER (link below) BY THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 18TH @ 5PM.

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeZ75ikWCcWTOAxZjPvc2w8_5LQIKauJpzg4QcSFPgT70I1Sw/viewform

If the waiver is not complete by this time there will be no exceptions made and the athlete will have to wait 3 weeks until the next session.

After we have everyone signed up, Coach Tasker will update everyone with practice dates/times.

Please follow the track website, https://easthightrack.org , to keep up with the latest info for the 2021 track season.

Running Club Schedule Changes – December

Due to the lack of sun and the increase in covid cases, we are changing the running club schedule.

In December, the group will only meet once a week on Wednesdays, depending on your school schedule, at 9:30am or 3:00pm at the big E. This will cut down on the size of the group and allow you to run in daylight. During winter break, we will not meet.

The other days will be virtual or you can meet and run in small groups. We will post training schedules for those training for 5Ks and another set of training schedules for those training for an April half marathon. See Final Surge for workout details.

We will not run a 5K in December. If cases decrease, we will try to run a 5K in January. If they increase, we won’t.

Remember masks and social distancing are required at practice. You can remove your mask during your run, but they must be worn at all other times.

We hope you all had a nice fall break!!

Letter & Academic Awards

We will pass out letter and academic awards on Thursday, November 19 from 4:00 – 4:30pm on the Esplanade by the E. If you didn’t get your covid, four year award, or cookie, those will also be available.

If you haven’t returned your uniform, you can also do this at the same time.

This is “drive by” style.   Wear your mask and drive on by!

Hope to see you tomorrow!

Track & Field SESSION 8 CANCELLED

Due to the rising numbers of the COVID-19 Virus, Denver East has elected to not participate in Session 8, which was scheduled to begin next week and run through December 4th.  As of now only Session 8 is cancelled and we will re-evaluate for Session 9 after the Thanksgiving Holiday, which is currently scheduled to begin December 7th, fingers crossed.

We will be posting workouts to be done on your own here on the website two or three times a week.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me with any questions.  Have a wonderful Holiday break, and stay safe!
