Coach Fehrman mentioned at practice that everyone needs good running shoes. If this is cost prohibitive for your family, please contact Mrs. Spano at 303-525-3829 and we’ll make arrangements for you to get good running shoes.
Until further notice, the following guidelines are required for voluntary summer practice:
Athletes must wear masks when gathered or doing drills.
No masks when running.
Athletes will sign in with coaches for potential contact tracing.
The Denver East High School 2021 voluntary summer practice will begin on Tuesday, June 8, 2021. We will start by having practice twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9:00am. Meet at the Big E in front of the school.
These practices are not required, but they are highly recommended for best results in the fall. We believe the well known statement, “cross country champions are made in the summer” and invite all interested runners to join us at summer practice. It doesn’t matter what your running experience has been or how much you are currently running, come join us if you can!
If you are a current 2021 track athlete, please continue to go to track practice. We’ll catch up with you soon!
Remember to wear a watch/fitness device and sunscreen and bring water!
Last fall, five of our Angel runners decided to train for and run a half marathon. Coach Delaney offered to train them and they began their 19 weeks of training, battling very snowy and cold winter weather.
The runners registered for the Boulderthon Half Marathon and, because of Covid 19, the race went virtual. Our runners pressed on and ran their first, and hopefully not their last, half marathon on April 18 on the Highline Canal.
Sarah Hoffer led the group, finishing with a very respectable 1:50, followed closely by Claire Ely with a 1:53 and not far behind were Charlie Hite and Jane Port, finishing together in just a bit over 2 hours. Kendall Ogin also trained very hard for 15 weeks, but a knee injury while skiing (her other passion) prevented her from racing.
The half marathon turned out to be a perfect pandemic activity! Kudos to these amazing student athletes and Coach Delaney!
