We will host our summer kick off meeting on Tuesday, May 24 at 6:00pm in the East Commons (lunch room).
We will talk about summer practice, summer running camp and our weekend fun runs. This is also a great way for new runners to meet the coaches and for current runners to reconnect with teammates and coaches. Parents are welcome and encouraged to attend.
Although summer practice isn’t required, it is a fantastic way to be prepared for the fall season and to connect with new and old running friends.
Summer Overview
Freshmen orientation:
May 31, June 1 and June 2 at East after school with Coach Gwaltney and other East XC coaches. Come ready to run and bring a water bottle. Exact time to be determined, stay tuned. To sign up for orientation, click here: Freshmen Cross Country Orientation
Summer Practice:
Summer practice will begin on Monday, June 6, 2022 at 8:00am. Meet at the Big E in front of the school ready to run. Bring a water bottle and wear sunscreen. We will meet every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday morning at 8:00am until the first part of August when we will adjust the time to the afternoon.
Summer High Altitude Running Camp:
If you haven’t signed up for Summer running camp yet, here is the link: East HS Summer Camp
Camp will be July 26-28 at Snow Mountain Ranch in Tabernash, CO. The cost is $200. We only have 7 spots left for girls and 8 spots left for boys at the time of this posting.
If it is cost prohibitive for you to attend camp, please contact Coach Spano at ruthspano@aol.com or Coach Kohuth at steven_kohuth@dpsk12.net and to find out about our camp scholarship programs.
Weekend Fun Runs:
The “Friday Fun Run” has been changed to the Weekend Fun Run. These are trail runs led by coaches that start away from the school. They may be on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday, we will post the schedule on the website. The summer team will car pool to a destination and go for a long trail run. Full disclosure: they may or not be “fun” while you are running them, but it is fun to feel good after you are done.
Team Captains:
If you are going to be a senior in the fall and are interested in becoming an XC team captain, stay tuned about the application process. We will be selecting fall team captains before summer practice begins.
“Cross country champions are made in the summer.”
Go Angels!
